What the Skill does
gclight-control is designed for AI clients that support Agent Skills and is the unified control entry point for every GC Light device family. The current gcli release supports Mini only, so every executable operation in this version uses gcli mini; this does not imply support for another device family. Future families will extend this same Skill instead of introducing family-specific Skills. It turns natural-language requests into bounded, verifiable gcli commands without implementing the serial protocol directly.
It supports:
- probing an explicit list of candidate serial ports;
- reading identity, output state, current, voltage, temperature, PD data, and Bluetooth state;
- setting current and enabling or disabling laser output;
- changing Bluetooth state and running self-tests;
- waiting for a bounded number of proactive device reports.
Ask an Agent to install it
The official gclight-control Skill package is published on GC-Light OSS and does not require source-repository access. Give the complete prompt below to an AI Agent that supports Agent Skills:
Install the official GC Light gclight-control Skill version 0.1.0 and perform file- and command-level verification only. Do not connect to or control a device during installation.
Skill archive:
https://oss.gclight.com/skill/gclight-control/0.1.0/gclight-control-0.1.0.tar.gz
SHA-256 checksums:
https://oss.gclight.com/skill/gclight-control/0.1.0/SHA256SUMS
Download both files and verify the archive against SHA256SUMS. After verification, extract it and install the complete top-level gclight-control directory through the client's native mechanism. Confirm that the installed directory contains SKILL.md, agents/openai.yaml, and references/cli.md. Reuse an existing gcli when available; otherwise install version 0.1.0 by following the GC-Light CLI quick start. Finally report the Skill location, CLI source, CLI path, and version.
Manual installation
1. Download and verify the OSS package
Skill 0.1.0 is paired with the same gcli version. On Linux and macOS:
VERSION=0.1.0
DOWNLOAD_DIR="$(mktemp -d)"
ARCHIVE="gclight-control-${VERSION}.tar.gz"
BASE_URL="https://oss.gclight.com/skill/gclight-control/${VERSION}"
curl --fail --location --retry 3 --output "$DOWNLOAD_DIR/$ARCHIVE" "$BASE_URL/$ARCHIVE"
curl --fail --location --retry 3 --output "$DOWNLOAD_DIR/SHA256SUMS" "$BASE_URL/SHA256SUMS"
(cd "$DOWNLOAD_DIR" && sha256sum --check SHA256SUMS)
tar --extract --gzip --file "$DOWNLOAD_DIR/$ARCHIVE" --directory "$DOWNLOAD_DIR"
SKILL_SOURCE="$DOWNLOAD_DIR/gclight-control"
Windows PowerShell:
$Version = "0.1.0"
$DownloadDir = Join-Path ([System.IO.Path]::GetTempPath()) ([System.Guid]::NewGuid())
$Archive = "gclight-control-$Version.tar.gz"
$BaseUrl = "https://oss.gclight.com/skill/gclight-control/$Version"
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path $DownloadDir | Out-Null
Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "$BaseUrl/$Archive" -OutFile (Join-Path $DownloadDir $Archive)
Invoke-WebRequest -Uri "$BaseUrl/SHA256SUMS" -OutFile (Join-Path $DownloadDir "SHA256SUMS")
$ChecksumLine = Get-Content (Join-Path $DownloadDir "SHA256SUMS") |
Where-Object { $_ -match " $([regex]::Escape($Archive))$" } |
Select-Object -First 1
if (-not $ChecksumLine) { throw "SHA256SUMS does not contain $Archive" }
$Expected = ($ChecksumLine -split "\s+")[0].ToLowerInvariant()
$Actual = (Get-FileHash -Algorithm SHA256 (Join-Path $DownloadDir $Archive)).Hash.ToLowerInvariant()
if ($Actual -ne $Expected) { throw "Skill SHA-256 verification failed" }
tar --extract --gzip --file (Join-Path $DownloadDir $Archive) --directory $DownloadDir
$SkillSource = Join-Path $DownloadDir "gclight-control"
Stop if verification fails or if the extracted top-level directory is not named gclight-control.
2. Install the complete Skill directory
Prefer the client's native Skill installation or registration feature and register $SKILL_SOURCE ($SkillSource in PowerShell) as gclight-control. If the client only accepts a local directory, copy the complete directory into the Skills directory named by its official documentation. Do not copy only SKILL.md.
mkdir -p "<SKILLS_DIR>"
cp -R "$SKILL_SOURCE" "<SKILLS_DIR>/gclight-control"
Windows PowerShell:
New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force -Path "<SKILLS_DIR>" | Out-Null
Copy-Item -Recurse -Path $SkillSource -Destination "<SKILLS_DIR>/gclight-control"
Obtain <SKILLS_DIR> from the client's configuration or official documentation; do not guess it. If the destination already exists, use the client's update mechanism instead of overlaying old and new files.
3. Prepare gcli
Check the current environment first:
gcli --version
Reuse it when the command exits 0 and its output starts with gcli . Otherwise follow the GC-Light CLI quick start to download the standalone program matching the platform, then ensure the environment that launches the AI client can find it on PATH.
There is currently no public source-installation path when the prebuilt program does not support the target platform. Do not attempt to access the private source repository or download an executable for a different architecture.
Verify the installation
Check only the following items. Do not test installation by discovering ports, toggling laser output, setting current, or changing Bluetooth:
- The installed directory contains
SKILL.md,agents/openai.yaml, andreferences/cli.md. - The AI client reports that it loaded the Skill named
gclight-control; reload it if the client requires that step. gcli --versionexits0.- The
gclipath visible to the AI client's runtime is the same path that was verified during installation. - The Skill location, CLI installation source, CLI path, and version have been reported.
Continue with usage and safety rules, then begin with a read-only query on an explicit port.
